5 simple self-care tips for moms
Let's not beat around the bush. Motherhood is not always easy. There, I said it.
Do you ever feel that you are failing as a mother?
The intention is of course to ensure that your children do not lack anything.
But the frantic efforts to achieve this can lead to considerable frustration.
As a mother you are constantly busy with all kinds of things. Keeping the entire household running is quite a job.
Sometimes this makes us forget a very important part of motherhood; Taking care of yourself!
Between busy schedules, it is important to make time for yourself and listen to your own needs.
If you don't make yourself a priority, stress, fatigue or even burnout can be the result.
Putting yourself at the top of the priority list applies to every individual, but for mothers in particular this is of course even more important.
A happy mother is a happy child. To be a happy mother, making time for yourself is not an unnecessary luxury.
We think it is important to share valuable tips with our fellow moms.
We are all in the same boat. Today in this series we share 5 simple self-care tips for moms.
Self-care is one of the hippest concepts these days. But make no mistake, it is not a hype that will pass over time, because we will then all throw ourselves into the next craze.
It is also not an unnecessary luxury - especially when you are a mother.
Self-care is hugely underestimated and seen by many mothers as unnecessary or an option.
When should you, as a mother, even make time for self-care and how do you do this without feeling guilty?
As a mother, are you allowed to take time for yourself?
After all, you chose to take on the challenge called 'motherhood', didn't you?
I know these thoughts all too well. When I became a mother myself, I didn't think self-care was important at all.
I also didn't realize that taking care of myself was directly related to taking care of my baby.
I am now a seasoned mother and I can tell you the following about it:
At least, that's how it feels. Because being burned out yourself and keeping a hyper toddler in check leads to the most not-so-hilarious scenarios.
'Motherhood without self-care is an almost impossible journey'.
At least, that's how it feels. Because being burned out yourself and keeping a hyper toddler in check leads to the most not-so-hilarious scenarios.
Today we give you 5 tips to prevent these types of situations.
Especially for all mothers: 5 simple self-care tips:
1. Treat yourself
I mean like, all the way!
We may currently be limited in terms of getting massages, going to the mani/pedi or being pampered by a beautician, but that shouldn't spoil the fun.
Get some delicious do-it-yourself kits and enjoy yourself. A foot bath and a facial mask can really work wonders.
2. Go offline
Offline really, is the new luxury.
Social media sometimes seems like a form of relaxation, but it can also be a huge trigger.
We often pick up our phone without really knowing why. Suddenly we have been scrolling a few hours further.
Grab a good book - I prefer a wonderful novel - and get away from the online world for a while.
3. Netflix and chill
Spending an evening unabashedly binging your favorite series is also a form of self-care.
Make it extra cozy by going all out with snacks, candles and anything that makes you feel extra chill.
Bingen is all the way self-care!
P.S. Homeland, Top Boy and How to get away with murder are highly recommended!
4. Say No!
Saying no is a great form of self-care.
We are sometimes tempted to be constantly available to everyone and say yes to everything.
However, every yes to someone else is a big 'NO' to yourself.
Self-care is saying no to others, so that you create more time and space for yourself.
Try to do this without feeling guilty. You are not obliged to always be 'on'.
Besides that, you need yourself more than others need you. Take it from me!
5. Video calling is the new girls night out
During busy days it sometimes seems impossible to plan an old-fashioned, fun evening with your friends.
Fortunately, technology now offers the opportunity to meet remotely via WhatsApp or other means of communication.
Self-care can also mean having a nice evening with your friends, even if it is at a distance.
Complaining about everyday things, sharing experiences, clearing your mind and laughing together can be refreshing.
It's a time to not worry about the responsibilities of parenthood and just enjoy each other's company.
Taking care of yourself has personally helped me to be a more relaxed, patient and happier mother.
If you're not doing it for yourself, remember that it's also for your children, because as the saying goes, "A happy mother makes happy children!"
Ultimately, we all strive to balance the demands of parenthood with maintaining our own well-being.
Have fun applying these tips and nurturing your friendships!
